The effect of alcohol strength on alcohol consumption: findings from a randomised controlled cross-over pilot trial

Abstract Background Reducing the alcohol content of drinks has potential to reduce consumption. The aims this study are (1) test feasibility a randomised controlled trial (RCT) assess effect strength on consumption within licensed premises in United Kingdom (UK), and (2) provide data estimate key parameters for RCT. Methods This is double-blind cross-over pilot based four UK. Participants ( n = 36) purchased consumed ad libitum 3.5% lager 4.8% during two separate sessions. Descriptive statistics reported efficacy efficiency processes, rates recruitment, participant recruitment attrition. Mean 95% confidence interval (CI) compared between conditions. mean, standard deviation (SD) CI UK units were used calculate sample size Responses questionnaires duration participation sessions conditions analysed.
